Greenhouse Ventures hosts helpful cannabis conference

An investor presentation by Releaf , a mobile app allowing medical marijuana patients to track and rate their experience with various forms of medicine, closed out the recent “Innovations in the Cannabis Industry: Future Outlook” conference by Greenhouse Ventures in Philadelphia.

The principals in Releaf participated in GHV’s business accelerator program over the fall which was a total of 90-hours of instruction. Branden Hall, co-founder and chief technology officer of Releaf, told Elevated Nation that despite already partnering on a successful digital production company, that launching a product-based business, let alone one in the cannabis arena, is a very different beast. “GHV helped us understand those differences and plan accordingly while also connecting us to big players in the cannabis space,” Hall told us.

New Jersey NORML’s Evan Nison, Roseanne Scotti of Drug Policy Alliance, attorney Troy Kaplan, Foundation of Cannabis Unified Standards (FOCUS) President Lezli Engelking and Colorado cannabis lawyer Jim Thorburn started the day with a discussion of drug policy and laws and what the industry should expect with the incoming Presidential administration.

Medical technology and application speakers included PotBiotics CEO David Goldstein, Manna Molecular Science’s Nial DeMena and Urban-Gro sales director Mark Doherty.

Americans for Safe Access chief scientist Jahan Marcu, ForwardGro medical director Debra Kimless, Dr. Bryan Doner of Compassion Certification Center and New Frontier Data Founder Giadha Aguirre De Carcer spoke about data and research about cannabis.

STAR Angel Network director Lance Johnstone, entrepreneur and cannabis investor Lindy Snider, who is a contributor and strategic advisor for Elevated Nation, Electrum Partners SVP Pamela Johnston and VS TechVentures co-founder Alain Bankier were among those discussing investments and LeafLink CEO Ryan Smith, Steven Gormley of Seventh Point and Tom Quigley of the ArcView Group spoke about how a company should proceed once it’s completed a round of funding.

Cannabis investor Jeffrey Friedland, author of “Marijuana, the World’s Most Misunderstood Plant,” was the featured guest on a keynote panel discussion.
