PA medical marijuana patients begin to be licensed

Medical marijuana patients in Pennsylvania last week began to receive their state-issued patient registration cards. The first dispensaries are scheduled to open across the state in 2018.

Theresa Nightingale, executive director of the Pittsburgh NORML chapter, told the Philadelphia Inquirer she got her card in the mail two days before Christmas.

“It was the perfect gift,” Nightingale, a cancer survivor, told the paper.

The  Department of Health mailed about 435 cards to doctor-certified patients in late December, the Inquirer’s Sam Wood reports. While 10,000 people have registered for the program, the state is still in the process of approving applicants.
